Asphalt shingles are still the most-installed roofing material in America for a simple reason: they deliver the best balance of price, durability, and curb appeal for the overwhelming majority of Middle Georgia homes. At Crest Roofing & Gutters, we’ve installed shingle roofs across Jackson, McDonough, Locust Grove, and Forsyth for 12 years — and we only install one shingle brand: GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer.
A new GAF shingle roof gives you 25–50 year material coverage, Class A fire resistance, algae protection, and wind ratings up to 130 mph — the kind of spec sheet that actually holds up to Georgia thunderstorms. Paired with proper underlayment, ice-and-water shield in valleys, and a correctly installed ridge-and-soffit ventilation system, a GAF shingle roof should comfortably reach the back end of its warranty before you ever need to think about it again.
Every shingle installation we do is backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty on top of GAF’s material coverage. If we install it, we stand behind the install — not just the shingle.

Middle Georgia puts three things on your roof that most of the country never sees: sustained summer heat in the 90s, humidity that grows algae on north-facing slopes, and pop-up thunderstorms that throw 50–70 mph wind gusts and hail at your shingles several times a season. A roof that performs in Denver or Dallas doesn’t necessarily perform here.
That’s why every shingle roof we install in Jackson, McDonough, Locust Grove, or Forsyth is spec’d for Georgia specifically: GAF Timberline HDZ architectural shingles (the industry’s most-installed laminated shingle), StainGuard Plus algae-resistance on every slope, and LayerLock technology that gives a 130 mph wind warranty when the full GAF system is installed. We upgrade to Class 4 impact-rated shingles for homeowners in active hail corridors, which can also earn you a discount on your homeowner’s insurance — ask your carrier.
We won’t cut corners on the parts of a roof you can’t see either. Synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water shield in valleys and around penetrations, and properly balanced intake/exhaust ventilation are what separate a 30-year roof from a 15-year roof.
Roofing is a trade where the material matters, but the install matters more. Two crews can buy the exact same bundle of GAF Timberline shingles and end up with two completely different roofs — one that holds up for 30 years, one that leaks in three.
Here’s what we actually do on every install:
Every step is documented with jobsite photos so you can see exactly what went on your roof.
A properly installed GAF shingle roof is one of the best value propositions in home improvement. You’re getting a 25-to-50-year material system for roughly a third to half the cost of metal — with comparable performance on everything except lifespan.
More importantly, when we install it, you’re not alone if something goes wrong. Most shingle warranty claims fail because the manufacturer finds an installation error and denies coverage. Our 10-year workmanship warranty covers the install itself — so if there’s ever a question about whether a failure is a material defect or an installation defect, you have one phone number to call.
That’s the difference between hiring a contractor who’s been doing this for 12 years in your ZIP code and a storm-chaser who rolled in from out of state last week. We’re still going to be in Jackson in ten years when you call us.
Crest Roofing & Gutters is a locally-owned roofing contractor based in Jackson, Georgia, with a 12-year track record across Butts, Henry, Spalding, Monroe, and Lamar counties. The four cities we install shingle roofs in most:
We also serve Griffin, Hampton, Stockbridge, Covington, Barnesville, Monticello, and surrounding Middle Georgia. If you’re unsure whether we cover your address, call (478) 375-6175 and we’ll tell you on the spot.
Most residential shingle replacements in the Jackson / McDonough / Locust Grove area take one to two days from first shingle off to final clean-up. Larger or steeper roofs, or homes with multiple stories and complex valleys, can run two to three days. We stage materials the day before the tear-off so crews are working a full day rather than half a day. Weather is the one variable we can’t control — if rain rolls in mid-install, we tarp and come back the next clear day.
Two separate warranties, layered. GAF covers the shingles themselves — 25 years on their starter line, up to Lifetime on Timberline HDZ when installed with the full GAF system (the Weather Stopper system warranty). On top of that, Crest Roofing & Gutters provides a 10-year workmanship warranty covering the install itself. Most shingle warranty claims get denied because the manufacturer finds an installation defect — our workmanship warranty is what covers you in exactly that situation.
No — most of our customers go to work while we’re installing. We’ll walk the job with you at the start, document everything with photos as we go, and review the completed roof with you at the end. If you prefer to be home, you’re welcome to; we’ll just ask you to park out of the drop zone so the tear-off crew has room to work safely.
Whether your roof is worn out or beyond repair, Crest Roofing & Gutters is ready to replace it.
